In the late 1800’s, the area became home to a church camp association, which laid out a fan-shaped city plan with wide streets, room for parks and an eye for commerce. This original city plan is much the same today, welcoming tourists, seasonal homeowners and full time residents and encouraging them to mingle together in a year round resort atmosphere.

In 1925, a new highway linked Rehoboth to Georgetown and the paved roads leading to Washington, D.C. The beauty and charm of the city attracted many visitors from Washington and earned the city the nickname of the “Nation’s Summer Capital.” As with all of Delaware’s coastal towns, proximity to large cities like Washington, Philadelphia and New York make the area convenient for commerce and travel. Holidays also offer family-friendly celebrations, especially on July 4th! You can also shop, play games at the arcades and hit the rides on the fabulous mile-long Boardwalk.
The beautiful sandy stretches of shore in south Delaware are idea for sailing, kayaking and just relaxing with friends and family.
